William Winward was born and christened on 27th April 1777 at Upholland and was the son of William Winward (b.1743) and Ellin Smith. He married Margaret Green on 29th November 1801 at Upholland. He died in Westhoughton on 31st October 1825 and was buried there on 3rd November.
