James Holding was the son of John Holding (1785) and Jane Darbyshire and was born in Duxbury on 8th March 1810 and was christened on 25th March in Chorley. He married Jane Goulding on 3rd December 1832 in Standish. In 1841 he was living in Hill Lane, Blackrod, and was working as a miner. In 1851 he was a miner and living at Side of Moor, Aspull. In 1861 he was listed as a grocer and fire man at a colliery, and living at Ladies Lane, Hindley. In 1871 he was still at Ladies Lane and listed as a grocer. In 1881 he was listed as a retired fire damp man and living at 9 Elliott Street in Hindley. He died in late 1881.
