Walter Ainscough was born around 1891 in Westhoughton and was the son of John William Ainscough (b. 1865) and Dinah Dickinson. In 1891 he was aged 1 and was living at 646 Chorley Road, Westhoughton. In 1901 and 1911 he was living at 176 Atherton Road in Hindley. In 1911 he was a collier labourer, working above ground. He married Clara Arkwright on 19th May 1918 at Hindley Unitarian Church. Walter later worked at a paint works in Hindley, and died in March 1975 in Billinge Hospital, from a leg amputation following dry gangrene.
