Sarah Ann Ainscough was born in Wigan in 1863 and was the daughter of James Ainscough (1836) and Mary. Sarah was lame from birth. In 1871 she was living at 48 Ashmoor Street in Preston. In 1881 she was living with her widowed mother at 65 Ashmoor Street and, in 1891, was still at Ashmoor Street with her mother and stepfather. By 1901 her mother and stepfather may have died, for then and in 1911 she was the head of household at 65 Ashmoor Street. She died in 1940 in Preston, aged 77.
