Robert Ainscough was born around 1882 in Pemberton and was the son of Thomas Ainscough (b. 1854) and Ellen Parkinson. In 1891 he was aged 9 and was living at 21 Turners Yard in Pemberton. In 1901 he was aged 19, was working as a fireman in a coal mine and was still at Turner's Yard.
