Ralph Ainscough was born in 1782 - possibly the son of a James Ainscough born in Blackrod in 1756 - and christened on 10th February 1782 at St. Katherine's Church in Blackrod. He married a woman called Nanny around 1807. He was probably a labourer, either agricultural or in a mine, and is described as Ralph Ainscow, Labourer, in his son William's marriage certificate of 1838. He died in Blackrod on 22nd July 1827, age 45.
