Mary Ellen Ainscough was born in Blackrod on 18th March 1879 and was baptised on 12th April. In 1881 she was aged 2 and was living at 434 Top Toll Bar, Westhoughton. In 1891 she was aged 12, was at school and was living at 256 Chorley Road, Westhoughton. In 1898 she was a witness at the wedding of her brother George to Mary Ellen Winward at St. Bartholomew's Church in Westhoughton. In 1900 she married Alfred Hilton (1878) and, in 1901, was living 294 Bolton Road in Westhoughton. In 1911 she was living at 306 Manchester Road, Westhoughton.
