John Ainscough was born in 1839 and baptised on 18th March. In 1841, as John Ainscow, he was living at Red Rock Bridge in Arley. In 1851 he was working as a drawer in a coal mine and was living at Canal Row, Haigh. In early 1861 he was working as a coal miner and lodging in the household of William Ince in Bridgewater Street, Ince. John married a Pemberton girl called Alice Baines in 1861. In 1871 he was living in Goose Green, Pemberton. In 1881 he was a coal miner and was living 2 Little Lane in Pemberton. In 1891 he was a coal miner and was living at 171 Enfield Street in Pemberton. In 1901 he was living at 141 Enfield Street, Pemberton. By 1911 he had retired and was living with son Benjamin at 50 Ringley Fold, Stoneclough, near Manchester. He died in Leigh in 1923, aged 84.
