Emma Ainscough was born in Blackrod around 1875 and was the daughter of Charles Ainscough (1848) and Miriam O'Hara. In 1881 she was aged 6, was at school and was living at 61 Scot Lane, Blackrod. In 1891 she was aged 16, was working as a cotton weaver and was living at 17 Holly Street, Aspull. She married John Derbyshire in 1898. In 1901 she was living in Pemberton.
