 Ellen Ainscough, known as Nellie, was born in Horwich on 17th September 1908 and was the daughter of George Ainscough (b.1870) and Mary Ellen Winward. In 1911 she was living at 49 New Brunswick Street in Horwich. She married George Reginald Carter (Reg) in 1931. He was variously a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman and a Policeman in Lancashire. In 1939 she was living at 10 Chesham Avenue, Rochdale. The family moved from Horwich and lived in Canada and Australia. They had one son.
